This is a prequel to the Coat n of Black Panther, so we see how Wakanda is beg neglected by T'Challa and what the women ci to do to protect their romance feels like uld have ed another page or three to fully velop om ial attractn to full relatnship - not that Gay skimped on pag, but I feel like we uld have ed a few more ternal reflectns on the buildup to the relatnship. I was not let down (although I didn't thk for a send that Roxane Gay even uld let me down).

Thgs are a ltle better the ics that are not wrten by Roxanne Gay but even those are jt ok ics that are over and done too quickly to change that the fact that the rt of this seri is jt really bad. But, sh, Roxane Gay did not have that problem. I’ve heard great thgs about Roxanne Gay so I was exced to read somethg by her.

ROXANE GAY AND TA-NEHISI COAT TEAM UP FOR NEW MARVEL ‘BLACK PANTHER’ SERI

Gay may have a slightly better handle on plottg, pacg, and character velopment than Ta-Nehisi Coat (the prev thor of note reced by Marvel to wre for Black Panther), but her story arc is still pretty herky-jerky as she tells the backstory of Ayo and Aneka, the Midnight Angels of Wakanda. Gay trac the two figur back to their trag the Dora Milaje, and follows their velopg relatnship through some of the big moments Wakanda's recent troubled past om Namor's undatn of the Goln Cy to Thanos' stctn of the untry the Infy storyle and the Black Orr's killg of Queen Shuri.

Gay ends Issue 6 at the pot where Coat had begun his work on Black Panther a few months earlier wh Zenzi and Tetu's rebelln Wakanda agast T' love story than superhero ic, World of Wakanda is worth a read for fans of Black Panther, although T'Challa himself tak a backseat here wh the spotlight on the two warrrs who bee the Midnight Angels. I will say, though, that I n't give Gay more than two stars here bee she don't really help me bee vted the liv of the two women. Maybe if Gay had been given more time to work wh their characters, I might have red more, but Ayo and Aneka e across here as more like a uple of -pennt dop workg through their troubl on a talk show than a pair of star-crossed warrr lovers torn between the obligatns of their personal and public liv as they stggle wh how to balance the needs of the untry wh their own sir.

And, although I'm sure nobody will agree wh me, the two shorter piec at the end of the volume givg some backstory to Zenzi, lear of the people's revolutn Wakanda, and then showg Kasper Cole's return to the Whe Tiger might both be a tad more succsful than Roxane Gay's orig story of Ayo and reviews25 followersAugt 29, 2018I love the premise of this book, and there is tertg stuff here, but I feel like so much of the plot had to happen between events that felt pretty disjoted.
