Mount Gay Black Barrel is an all-new blend which “featur an olr selectn of ms, movg to a blend of three to seven-year-old ms as opposed to the prev two to seven years, wh a higher ntent of double distilled pot still ms. Mount Gay XO has been “enriched wh a broar palette of ms selected, dividually aged three different sks – Amerin Whiskey, Bourbon and Cognac – for five to 17 years, rather than the prev eight to 15 years.
Let’s taste (cludg a parison agast a 2008 vtage bottle of Mount Gay Extra Old). Mount Gay XO Rum (2020) – While there’s olr stock the blend now, I thk the key thg to note is that the old Extra Old started at 8 years old, while the new XO starts at a mere 5.

So, seems that Mount Gay’s relnch of two of s ms is not jt a change of blend, but a different target dience – I thk Black Barrel is mostly aimed at the cktail sector, whereas the new XO is more to the sip and savour enthiast.

I do like the re-brand bottl – Eclipse, Black Barrel and XO all have the same bottle shape, followg on om the special edns, such as the Mount Gay Peat Smoke Exprsn Rum.
Suffice to say that as a m drker that always enjoys Mount Gay ms, I have really enjoyed the new XO Triple Cask Blend tremendoly. This was a tough ll as Mount Gay’s ms are ually pretty keen price/value-wise.
