The first Atlanta Pri was held Piedmont Park 50 years ago to memorate the one-year anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Uprisg, which took place after police raid the Stonewall Inn, a gay club Greenwich Village. In the summer of 1970, few were willg to march on a public siwalk holdg aloft an “Equal Rights for Gays” sign, as homosexualy was both illegal and grounds for termatn om most jobs.
The Amerin Psychiatric Associatn wouldn’t remove homosexualy om s talogue of psychiatric disorrs until 1973.
