It beme <em>Live At S-é</em>, a 26-mute EP, which was was expand 2003 to clu a two-and-a-half hour marathon set rerd over two nights. Until that pot, Doyle had never rerd anyone his fe, even though The Wallflowers, <a href=">PJ Harvey</a>, <a href=">Séad O’Connor</a>, and <a href=">U2</a> had all graced the ty stage. All Doyle had was a beat-up six-track mixer and a microphone. He thought that rerdg would the transory vibe that ma the fe such a safe space for micians. “I uldn’t have rerd,” he nclus. “It would’ve changed everythg.”</p><p>This adds a sha of voyrism on the <em>Live At S-é</em> album. You’re listeng to Buckley lead this one-man burlque baret like a boy performg the mirror. Durg the solo performanc, he was listeng, watchg, and feelg the dience, rpondg to them a really val and rpectful and playful way.”</p><p>Perhaps this is what mak Buckley so malleable our md, or even immortal. All the posthumo rerdgs uld never fe the te path of Buckley wh certaty. Wuelfg tells me that his favore Buckley moments were when he played wh the band he formed after rerdg <em>Grace;</em> Doyle tells me is “forever the Leonard Cohen ver.” Everyone has their own Buckley text.</p><p>In his S-e performance we hear possibily, someone so earntly love wh the large-format spir of mic at time when Gen-X subversn laid like a chokg fog over pop culture. What kismet that Buckley existed that moment, and maybe agast the cultural ennui of the ‘90s, he was a kd of prophet for some. But this religsy myth of Buckley ignor that even at the time of his ath, he was a perpetual work progrs. His life was a qut for this perfect thread that uld trace a le through the history of mic, somethg that would make sense of all.
