But serly—I had such vlently mixed feelgs about Larry's words here (whose harshns is tempered somewhat by his own admtg that even he n't seem to sta a long-term relatnship). On one hand, uld he not appreciate the celebratn, the joy, the liberatn and ecstasy that was gay life 1978 NYC? The Village and Fire Island the 1970s sound like enchanted plac I'd time-travel back to (temporarily) a mute, but 1978, they were among prec few plac where gay men uld be themselv whout fear of vlence, firg or other repercsns. They weren't "real," many sens of the word. And 's heartbreakg that took the plague of the 1980s and 1990s to all but force society to reckon wh gay personhood—a bter bridge that brgs to where we are today.</p><p><span>As I watched episos of </span><em>ECTV</em><span>, I took to Googlg everyone I "met" to see who was still alive. Prec few, fact.
