When Emmy-award-wng graphic signer, waterlor portra artist, and mician Jam Gayl moved to Reno om Oakland, he noticed somethg pretty quickly: there aren’t a lot of Black artists here.

“I disvered that there was no, really, Black art here Reno, so I said ’s one of my goals to troduce Reno to Black art—my art—you know, maybe brg some more artists here, ” Gayl said. Jam Gayl, an Oakland-based Emmy Award-wng artist and mician, is strivg to draw out the athetic value hidn the tersectn between patg and lerature through a llaborative book he’s tled Reflectn. Aqueila Lewis, an Oakland-based journalist and mol who participated the Reflectn project as a featured wrer, wrote a poem tled “Somebody’s baby, nobody’s victim, ” based on Gayl’ portras of sger Na Simone.

Born New Jersey, Gayl attend Pratt Instute New York, where he studied fe art unr renowned paters Jab Lawrence and super realist Audrey Flack. Then Gayl moved to the Bay Area to seek a more relaxed liftyle.
