THE STORY OF INIC LIVERPOOL GAY CLUB MASQUERA TO OPEN AT THE EPSTE THEATRE

The Epste Theatre is Gra II Listed and loted the heart of Liverpool cy centre, was named after the legendary gay Beatl’ manager and ‘Fifth Beatle’ Brian Epste. The first after-hours gay club Liverpool, weled an army of visors om Merseysi and across the untry for over two s, hostg a huge le-up of DJs, as well as a number of famo fac. This was a new ia at the time as up until then the gay scene had been very much separate the 1980s.

The 58-year-old relled how, at the time, Liverpool gay clubs didn't have a 6am dance licence but, after Garlands was granted one, lols stopped travellg to the lik of Leeds and Manchter and started phg the pk pound to the cy.

Openg 1998, the one-room venue was loved throughout the 90s and was known to be the cy’s olst gay bay. The si door B&M r park led up a spiral stairse to the exclive Top Floor Gays club. In the 1990s, Top Floor Gays, also known to Southport lols as TFGs, provid a safe space for LGBT+ people to exprs themselv eely away om fear of discrimatn.

Sudnly, breweri were vtg gay venu and sponsorg gay events bee they realised gay people like beer too. He add: "In 1992, there were six gay venu across the cy.
