Embodyg an artificial agent through immersive virtual realy (IVR) may lead to feelg virly somatosensory stimuli on one’s body which are fact never livered. To explore whether vir touch IVR reflects the basic dividual and social featur of real-life terpersonal teractns we tted heterosexual men/women and gay men/lbian women reactg subjectively and physlogilly to the observatn of a genr-matched virtual body beg touched on timate taboo zon (like genalia) by male and female avatars. All participants rated as most erogeno rs on their embodied avatar taboo zon. Ccially, heterosexual men/women and gay men/lbian women rated as most erogeno taboo touch livered by their oppose and same genr avatar, rpectively. Sk nductance was maximal when taboo touch were livered by female avatars. Our study shows that IVR may trigger realistic experienc and ultimately allow the direct exploratn of sensive societal and dividual issu that n otherwise be explored only through imagatn.
